It cannot be the way that the Christian County Colonels players, coaches, administrators, and fans dreamed their final season would come to an end. As of Saturday morning, according to the KHSAA website, on the page where the organization lists teams that are withdrawing from the football playoffs, Christian County High School has notified the Kentucky High School Athletic Association that they will not be participating in the football postseason.
Sources indicate that players were informed of the decision following Friday night’s game at Paducah Tilghman.
At 8am Saturday, the Christian County Public Schools issued a brief press release on the matter:
“After careful consideration, Christian County High School has made the decision to withdraw from the 2025 KHSAA 6A football playoffs.
The school extends its sincere appreciation to the student-athletes, coaches, staff, and parents for their commitment and support throughout the season.”
As of 7am Saturday morning, Christian County was one of six schools that had taken that action.

News of the decision comes just hours after the Colonels lost on the road to Paducah Tilghman in their regular season finale, which now becomes the last game in program history.
The decision means that South Warren will get a bye in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs.
The final season was a difficult one for the Colonels, marked by the head coach leaving mid-season, injuries, and low player numbers. Christian County finishes the season at 1-9 with the win coming back in September at Caverna. A total of 26 players dressed out for the game at Tilghman Friday night.
According to the KHSAA website, the action comes with a bit of a cost:
“In addition to the cost of trophies, the fine is $1200 for Class 1A and 2A, $1500 for Class 3A, $2000 for Class 4A and 5A, and $2500 for Class 6A.
All except $400 per fine will be sent to the opponent whose game is canceled.
The fine may only be removed or reduced due to natural disaster, the results of documented and declared pandemic situations or other seemingly catastrophic occurrence.”
The decision to withdraw means the Colonels will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2000.
Christian County’s first playoff appearance was in 1977 with the first playoff win coming in 1982. The Colonels are 36-38 all-time in the playoffs.

Playoffs are a reward for a successful season not meant to include everyone.
Participation in the regular season SHOULD NOT be a ticket to playoffs
Why would a 1-9 team be in the playoffs to begin with
Exactly, everyone seems to make the playoffs, kind of silly
Kentucky 6a football is like all football classes in Indiana, every team qualifies for the playoffs. It should be earned.
