For the first time in eight years, Todd County Central has qualified for the KHSAA State Dance Competition.

Todd County Central finished fifth in the Pom Division at the KHSAA Region 2 competition in Owensboro Sunday with a score of 80.90 points, nabbing the final state qualifying spot by .32 points over sixth-place Bowling Green. Hopkins County Central won the region title with a score of 85.50.

The Pom Division consists of teams with 5-40 squad members with a routine that lasts no more than two minutes.

It will be Todd County Central’s first trip to the state dance competition since 2017, the same year the KHSAA first sanctioned dance as a competitive sport.

Dance regions comprise Regions 1-4 in other sports, such as basketball and softball, and include schools from Paducah to Owensboro to Bowling Green.

The KHSAA State Dance Competition is on December 14 at George Rogers Clark High School.
