Tynisa Young hopes to continue the recent stability brought to the Fort Campbell girls’ basketball program by former coach Larry Dixon.

Young returns after an 8-12 season, and her task continues to be the development of players expected to compete in a top-heavy 8th district.

However, the Lady Falcons find themselves in the same boat as District foe Heritage Christian Academy – two rebuilding squads that are expected to battle for third place in the district behind Christian County and Hopkinsville.

Kyndal Bradley (4.0 ppg.) is expected to be the top offensive threat for the Lady Falcons as she can drive to the basket and step behind the line to knock down a three-pointer.

Senior Saniyah Bell also gives the Lady Falcons some experience in the backcourt, and Young says eighth grader Ja’leighyna Cabrera will also see minutes early.

Young will seek depth on her squad as the season wears on, but relishes the underdog role.

“We have to focus on the family aspect of basketball. At Fort Campbell, we are a military family, so we’re transient. We don’t know who’s going to be here each year, so we want to build a family environment,” she said, adding, “We also need the discipline and the heart and fundamentals for basketball. That’s the foundation, and that’s where we always start.”

Senior Cyri Reed gives the Lady Falcons some size inside and a defensive presence in the paint.

I’m hoping to lean on getting my post players to where they understand the fundamentals of the post. I have girls that are 5-10, and 5-11, so it’s a coach’s dream,” Young said.

Fort Campbell closed out last year by winning five of its last six games as players began to understand their roles on the floor and on the team, something Young hopes to see again this year.

“If we work together and continue that positive, family, constructive environment, then that underdog goes out the window because we’re Army strong. Always.”

Fort Campbell opens its 2025-26 season on Tuesday at Union County. Their first home game will also be their district opener when Hopkinsville comes to Falcon Gym on December 10.
