The Lyon County Lady Lyons basketball team played their first game of the regular season at home on Tuesday evening against Murray. This is the second year in a row that Lyon has opened their season against the Lady Tigers, and it is the second year in a row that they had their way with them.
The Lady Lyons wasted no time in the first quarter, as they started forcing some turnovers and scoring off of them. They got out to a 15-0 lead before Murray was able to score their first points roughly four minutes in from a pair of free throws. But that did not stop Lyon from extending their lead to 26 by the end of the quarter and going up 28-2.
The Lady Tigers were able to score their first field goal of the game three minutes into the second quarter with a three-pointer, but that didn’t stop Lyon. They kept up their ball movement leading to easy looks, and a three from Maddie Perry at the buzzer gave the Lady Lyons a 47-15 lead at half.
More of the same was in store for the third quarter, and two threes and a layup late gave Lyon a 61-18 lead at a timeout. That lead then grew to 69-18 by the end of the third period.
Lyon’s ginormous lead made the fourth and final quarter fairly easy, as all they had to do was keep up what they were doing. They were able to do just that and eventually win their season opener 80-30.
Courtney Collins led the Lyons in scoring with 20 points, six of them coming from three-pointers. Trinity Taylor and Piper Cotham also put up double-digits with 17 and 12, respectively.
The Lady Lyons will be looking to win two in a row to start the season in their next game on Thursday, December 4, at home against the Graves County Lady Eagles. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Lyon County High School.
