The Ricky Baker era is off to a ‘roaring’ start with the Lyon County Lady Lyons basketball team. For the second time in three nights, the Lady Lyons hosted a 1st Region opponent and sent them home with the sting of a big loss.
Three Lady Lyons scored in double figures and the Lyon County defense allowed Graves County to hit double digits in just one quarter as the Lady Lyons rolled to a 63-37 win in Jason White Gym.
The big win over the Lady Eagles comes just two nights after the Lady Lyons handed Murray a 50-point loss.
Courtney Collins opened the night with a big first quarter as Lyon County ran out to a 20-9 lead. Collins scored 10 points and pulled down four rebounds in the first 8 minutes of the contest. Piper Cotham added five points in the quarter.
The Lady Lyons had their shooting eye locked in, knocking down three shots from behind the arc in the first.
The second quarter saw Trinity Taylor pick right up where Collins had left off. Taylor scored 12 points, had 2 rebounds, and 2 assists as the Lady Lyons extended their lead to 41-16 at the break.
The Lyon County defense was smothering the first half, allowing Graves County just three field goals in each quarter.
Things were a bit more even in the second half, but by that point the damage was done and the Lady Lyons were well on their way to a second straight win to open the season.
Lyon County led 53-31 after three and then rode it on out for the final 26-point win.
A big night for Trinity Taylor, who finished with 23 points, 4 rebounds, 6 steals and four assists. Courtney Collins ended up with double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds. Piper Cotham was the third Lady Lyon in double figures with 13 points. Sloan Cotham added 7 points for Lyon County.
Graves County was paced by Carli Goatley with 14 points. Ella Kemp added 8 points for the Lady Eagles.
Lyon County (2-0) hits the road Saturday to take on Calloway County in The Tipoff Classic at Calloway County High School.
