The Lyon County Lady Lyons basketball team went into their matchup with Calloway County looking for their third win in a row to start the season. They were unable to do that, as the Lady Lakers were able to get the win at home 78-58.
Calloway got off to a very hot start in the first quarter, scoring 25 points right out of the gate behind three three-pointers in the quarter. Lyon County was able to hit a few of their own, but it was not enough to keep up.
The roles were reversed in the second quarter, with the Lady Lyons outscoring Calloway 21-15. The driving force in the period for them was junior guard Piper Cotham, who was able to make three shots from beyond the arc.
Despite the very big second quarter, the Lady Lyons were outscored 38-23 over the course of the next two quarters. Calloway was able to keep putting in shots from downtown, and Lyon just wasn’t able to keep up.
This led to the Lady Lakers taking the game 78-58, and giving Lyon County their first loss of the young season.
Cotham led the way in scoring for the Lady Lyons with 23 points, while Courtney Collins was able to contribute 17 of her own as well.
They will be looking to bounce back in their next game on Tuesday, December 9, against Livingston Central on the road. That game is scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m.
