When the offense struggles to score, it becomes awfully difficult to win a basketball game, and that was what the Todd County Central Lady Rebels faced Saturday morning in the State Farm 4th Region Challenge at Bowling Green High School.
Barren County’s Shelby Byrd outscored the Lady Rebels for the game with her first-quarter performance alone as the Trojanettes won their 5th straight game to open the season, rolling past Todd County Central 74-10.
Byrd scored 17 points in the opening quarter and the Barren County defense held the Lady Rebels scoreless as the Trojanettes ran out to a 24-0 lead after the opening quarter.
The Lady Rebels were held scoreless til the middle portion of the second quarter as Barren County extended the lead to 42-4 at the half.
Things did not get any better for the Lady Rebels in the second half as the Trojanettes limited Todd County Central to a single field goal in the third quarter and ran the lead on out to 56-6.
Reserves saw all the action for Barren County in the 4th quarter as the Trojanettes rode it out for the win.
Daymea Garrett and Gracee Miller had 3 points each for Todd County Central. Chloe Collins and Cara Higgins added two points each. Miller was named the player of the game for the Lady Rebels.
Shelby Byrd led Barren County with 24 points. Reagan Griffiths came off the bench to add 8 points for the Trojanettes.
Todd County Central (0-5) goes back on the road to Bowling Green Tuesday to take on Warren East.
