The Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons and the Hopkins County Central Lady Storm basketball teams both went into their Friday evening matchup coming off of a win. But it was the latter that was able to continue their win streak to start the season with a dominant 60-22 victory.

The Lady Storm began very early with a 13-2 run to start the first, with eight of those points coming from Tyah White.

Hopkins Central sophomore Addie Menser scored five straight to get to 18, and Calajia Mason hit a layup as the quarter winded down to give the Lady Storm a 20-5 lead going into the second.

The next quarter was much slower than the first for the majority of it, with there being just 14 combined points in the eight minutes. But Central was still able to put in a couple threes to extend their lead to 21 going into the halftime break.

The Lady Maroons were still not really able to get anything going in the third quarter either, as Hopkins Central was able to force a number of turnovers, capitalizing on most of them.

Three shots from beyond the arc, two which were back-to-back from Mender to start the quarter, were enough to keep the Lady Storm in firm control with a 48-14 lead going into the final quarter.

After that, it was pretty much all she wrote, as Central was able to close out the game and get a 60-22 victory, which is their third-straight win by more than 35 to start the season.

This is also the fourth-straight rivalry game with Madisonville that the Lady Storm have been able to win, with the Lady Maroons’ last win being in February of 2024.

The leading scorer for Central was Menser with 19 points behind four three-pointers. White was also able to contribute 13 points of her own, getting it done on the interior.

As for the Lady Maroons, their leading scorer was freshman Lilly Gobin with six points, with four of them coming from makes at the free throw line.

They will be looking to bounce back in their next game on Tuesday, December 16, against the Lady Panthers of Dawson Springs. That game will begin at 6 p.m. at Dawson Springs High School.

The Lady Storm will be hoping to extend their win streak to four to start the season in their next one against the Marshall County Lady Marshals on Saturday, December 13. They will play as part of the 2025 Holiday Hoopla Classic, and they will tip off at 11:30 a.m. at McCracken County High School.
