Unless they meet in the 2nd Region tournament, the all-time series between Lyon County and Christian County will end with the Lyons on a long winning streak. Lyon County scored the first 11 points of the game Thursday night in Lyle Dunbar Gym and was never seriously threatened after that as the Lyons took a 74-54 win.
The win gives Lyon County seven straight wins over the Colonels, going back to the 2nd Region tournament in 2022.

Lyon County’s three-quarter court trap caused the Colonels issues from the very beginning. The Lyons’ first four field goals were in the paint as they got to the early lead. Lyon County would be up 18-10 when the first quarter ended.
The Lyons struggled a bit from the field in the second quarter and had a few ball security issues of their own. Lyon County would head off to the break holding a 30-18 lead. Bray Kirk and Cooper Collins combined for 18 points in the first half.
Tom Johnson had six points on a pair of three-pointers to help the Colonels stay within shouting distance of the Lyons in the half.
Early in the third quarter, the Lyons dropped the hammer for good. Leading 40-27, the Lyons cranked up the defensive pressure and went on a 12-0 run to blow the lead out to 52-27. The lead would be 61-37 when the quarter ended.

The Lyons would run the lead out to as many as 34 in the fourth quarter before the Christian County reserves made a bit of a run against the Lyon County reserves to trim the margin in the final minutes of the game.
Bray Kirk had a huge night for the Lyons, finishing with 29 points, 19 coming in the second half. Nolan Coffman finished the night with 20 points. Cooper Collins knocked down three shots from behind the arc and scored 11 points for the night. Isaac Defew added 9 points and 7 rebounds.
Tom Johnson and Darren Bigbee led Christian County with 11 points each. Bigbee’s points all came in the second half.
Lyon County (11-5) is back in action Friday night when the Lyons host Trigg County.
Christian County (7-8) goes on the road Tuesday to take on Graves County.
