The Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons went into their game Tuesday night having lost their last game, while the Hopkins County Central Lady Storm had won their previous match. Unfortunately for Madisonville, both of those streaks continued, as Central won on the road 47-41.
The Lady Storm were able to take control in the first quarter, and they did so with nine points from Calajia Mason. Madisonville’s Sadie Kirk was also able to get six in the quarter, but that did not stop the Lady Maroons from going down 18-9.
The second period definitely started a bit slower, with the Lady Maroons scoring the first bucket for either team three minutes in with a three-pointer. Unfortunately for Madisonville, Hopkins Central was able to answer right back.
After that it was very back and forth, but the Lady Maroons cut the lead to just four by the end of the half and went into the locker room down just 25-21.
Hopkins Central came out of the halftime break wanting to make up for that second quarter, and they did so with a 9-0 run to start.
That run was finally broken by a fast break layup by Taylor Nelson, but that did not stop Central from keeping an 11-point lead by the end of the quarter thanks to a Niyla Liles three-pointer.
The lead stayed at or around eight points for most of the fourth quarter, but Madisonville made it a bit interesting in the final minutes. Despite the late effort, the Lady Storm took home the win 47-41 against their rivals.
This is now the fifth time in a row that Central has gotten the best of Madisonville, with the Lady Maroons last win in the series back in February of 2024.
The leading scorer in the game for Hopkins Central was Mason with 20, and she was able to score 16 of those in the first half. BriNiyah Dulin also got into double-digits with 12, doing most of her scoring in the second half.
Kirk led the way for the Lady Maroons with 13, as she was able to get into the paint with consistency. Macy Wright and Lilly Gobin were also each able to contribute eight of their own.
Madisonville will be looking to bounce back in their next game on Friday, January 23, against the Lady Panthers of Dawson Springs. Their game will begin at 6 p.m. at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School.
As for the Lady Storm, they will be hoping that they can extend their win streak to three games in their next one against Crittenden County on Thursday, January 22. That game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m. at Hopkins County Central High School.
