The Christian County Lady Colonels and the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers faced off on Friday night for the final time ever in the regular season. Despite being the home team, Hopkinsville fell in the final meeting between the two teams with a score of 74-35.
Christian County came out swinging in the first quarter, as they started out the game with a very quick 11-0 run. Hopkinsville didn’t get their first bucket until almost six minutes in when Serenity Ewing made a layup to put the Lady Tigers on the board.
Anaysia Bagwell had nine points in the first eight minutes for the Lady Colonels with a pair of three-pointers, and that helped Christian County take a commanding 21-6 lead going into the second.
The second quarter was more of the same, with Hopkinsville being outscored 23-12 behind some solid play from Bagwell.
The Lady Tigers were able to outscore Christian County in the first few minutes, but a scuffle over a jump ball lit a fire under the Lady Colonels. After that, Christian County was able to force a number of turnovers and extend their lead all the way to 26 by the end of the half.
Hopkinsville kept up with County in the first half of the third quarter, scoring eight points in the first four minutes, the same as the Lady Colonels.
But Christian County once again locked in and went on a 13-2 run the rest of the quarter to go up 65-38 going into the final period.
After that, all it took was a nine point quarter from the Lady Colonels to close the game out and get their final regular season win ever against the Lady Tigers.
This was the fifth time in a row that Christian County got the best of Hopkinsville, with the Lady Tigers’ last win against the Lady Colonels in March of 2024.
The leader in the win was Bagwell, who finished the game with 24 points and four made shots from beyond the arc. Genesis McGee and Carliah Hobson were both also able to get into double-digits with 14 and 10, respectively.
Kaveyah White was the leading in scorer for the Lady Tigers with 13 points, nine of which she got in the first half. Serenity Ewing also was able to contribute 11 of her own by getting to the rim with consistency.
They will be looking to help Hopkinsville right the ship in their next game on Monday, January 26, against Henderson County. Weather permitting, their game will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Henderson County High School.
As for the Lady Colonels, a new win streak will be their goal in their next one against the Lady Falcons of Fort Campbell on Monday. Their game is currently scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Christian County High School, if the weather allows.
