When Lyon County needed to turn up the heat, their defense rose to the occasion on Thursday as the Lady Lyons defeated Trigg County 62-30 at Wildcat Gym.
After pushing out a first-half advantage to 32-15 at halftime thanks to nine points from 11 Trigg turnovers, the Lady Lyons doubled Trigg’s scoring output in the second half, shooting 48% from the field.
Trigg County stayed close early as the Lady Lyons shot just 30% from the field. However, their ability to crash the offensive glass led to them getting up 28 more shots. Lyon held a 37-25 rebounding advantage that led to 14 second-chance points.
Playing with a face mask due to a broken nose suffered in a Jan. 16 win over Trigg County, Piper Cotham hit four 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 21 points for the Lady Lyons. She also had seven assists and five rebounds.
Trinity Taylor added 19 points and eight rebounds as starters accounted for 59 of Lyon County’s 62 points.
A.J. Navarro hit three of Trigg County’s four 3-pointers and tallied 17 points. Veyda Grinols added six points and 10 rebounds.
Lyon County (18-5) will get a stiff test on Saturday as they host unbeaten Calloway County at 2:00 as part of the Akridge Ace Shootout. The Lady Lakers beat Lyon County 78-58 on Dec. 6.
Trigg County (9-10) will play at Livingston Central on Monday. A Lady Wildcat win means they will face Lyon County again in the district tournament semifinals later this month.
