Caldwell County overcame a 13-0 run in the first half, but the Lady Tigers couldn’t fight off a 10-0 spree in the second half.

Christian County got 20 points from Anaysia Bagwell and 19 from Carliah Hobson while capturing a 57-52 victory Friday night in Princeton.

Caldwell (8-11) trailed by nine, 45-36, entering the final frame.

But the Lady Tigers battled all the way back to take a 48-47 lead following a short jumper by Tink Clark with 4:28 left in the game.

Carliah Hobson tied the game at 48-48 when she made one of two free throws with 2:58 to go.

That started the Lady Colonels’ second-half run that ultimately decided the contest.

Hobson scored off an inbounds pass from Genesis McGee to put Christian back in front 50-48 with 2:27 remaining.

Carlie Hobson scored on a runout, then McGee scored on a drive to the basket to make it 54-48 with 1:37 to play, and the Lady Colonels were well on their way to a win.

The margin hit nine at 57-48 before Christian settled for the five-point triumph.

Carlie Hobson added eight points for the Lady Colonels, who are now 8-8.

Caldwell got 15 points from Audrey McCoy and 13 from Clark. Laylay Shearer and Ke’Darriah Thompson each had nine.

But the Lady Tigers missed a chance to keep the game closer at the free throw line. Caldwell hit just 5 of 20 attempts from the charity stripe.

Christian was 10 of 16 on free throws.

Caldwell got off to a good start in the contest, leading 13-9 after one stanza and going up 22-14 early in the second period.

However, Caldwell missed six straight free throws while the Lady Colonels reeled off 13 points in a row.

A steal and layup by Bagwell put Christian in front 23-22 with 2:33 left in the first half.

By the break, the Lady Colonels held a 32-25 advantage.

Friday’s win broke a tie in the all-time series and pushed Christian ahead 45-44.

The Lady Colonels will play again on Monday when they host Franklin-Simpson.
