A week and a half ago, Caldwell County came up just short of a school record for 3-pointers. Tuesday night, the Tigers succeeded in their quest for a school mark.

Caldwell made 15 of 26 shots from behind the arc while pulling away from Trigg County in the second half for a 96-60 victory at the CAB gym in Princeton.

The Tigers (13-11) shot 55.2 percent overall (37 of 67) and connected on 57.7 percent of their 3-point tries.

The 15 3-pointers were one more than Caldwell had against Hopkinsville on Jan. 23, 2007. The Tigers had 13 3s in a win at Crittenden County back on Feb. 1.

Daelyn Lander was 7 for 9 from long range while totaling 31 points. Jack Roach went 4 for 7 from 3 and had a career-best 26 points.

Pax Aikins hit two 3s and had 12 points along with eight assists. Dayton Wilson had one 3-pointer as part of his 12-point night. Landon Mitchell had a 3 and finished with five points.

Caldwell’s hot shooting helped it turn a nine-point lead midway through the third quarter into a 71-49 advantage entering the final frame.

The Tigers led by as much as 41 points late in the contest on their way to their fifth-straight win over the Wildcats.

Trigg (7-17) got a game-high 34 points from Landon Swann. Clay Travis had 12 points.

The game was tied just once, at 2-2, before Caldwell opened up a 17-4 lead. Caldwell led 29-17 after one quarter, but Trigg had the margin down to single digits at halftime, 44-35.

The two teams will square off again Friday night in Cadiz.

Before that, Caldwell will host Henderson County on Thursday while Trigg travels to Union County that day.
