Both Christian County and Fort Campbell went into their Wednesday night matchup against one another having won their last two games and looking for a third. But it was the Colonels who were able to get the job done 75-43 at home.
The game started off neck-and-neck, and was tied at five points apiece roughly halfway through the first quarter. Christian County and Fort Campbell then tied up again at seven, but the Falcons went on a bit of a scoring drought.
The Colonels took the lead 12-7 as the quarter was about to expire, but Fort Campbell’s Tyler Tow got fouled and made a pair of free throws in the final second to cut the lead to three after the first eight minutes were up.
But the second quarter is where Christian County was really able to take control, and they did so by outscoring Fort Campbell 24-6 in the period. Jay Henderson led the Colonels in scoring in the quarter with seven, which helped the team take a 36-16 lead at the half.
Fort Campbell bounced back quickly in the third with 21 points behind 14 on four three-pointers from Tyreek Anthony.
But it was too little too late, and the Colonels were able to put in their reserves and get the win on their home floor.
Perhaps the driving force in the win for Christian County was on the glass, as they were able to out-rebound Fort Campbell 42 to 21. And 28 of those 42 rebounds came on the offensive side of the ball.
The Colonels’ leading scorer in the game was Rahsean Stevenson with 23 points, as he was able to get it done on the inside. Henderson was also able to get into double-digits with 11, seven of which came in the second quarter when the team got the momentum.
Anthony had a solid game for the Falcons with 20, and he was able to make four shots from beyond the arc. Kyre Ferguson was able to contribute 11 points of his own over the course of the game.
They will be looking to help the Falcons bounce back in their next game on Friday, February 13, against Foundation Christian Academy on the road. Their game is scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m.
As for the Colonels, their goal will be their fourth straight win in their next one on Thursday, February 12, against the Blazers of University Heights. Their game will begin at 7:30 p.m. at University Heights Academy.
