Avah Miller has become the first and last Christian County High School wrestler to qualify for the KHSAA State Tournament.

The sophomore finished in third place in the 165-pound class at the Region 1 Tournament on Saturday at Union County. Miller upped her record to 26-5 with her only loss coming to two-time defending region champion and state runner-up Kali Nichols of Daviess County.

Miller scored a 40-second pin of North Hardin’s Savannah French in the third-place match. She will be the first Lady Colonel wrestler to take the mat at the KHSAA State Tournament on Feb. 28 in Lexington.

In her first season on the mat, sophomore Rhyn Trahan finished fifth at region and will be an alternate at state. She lost her first match in the 126-pound class and then rebounded to win her next three. After a loss in the consolation semifinal, she defeated Caldwell County’s Emilee Klidzejs with a 29 second pin in the 5th place match.

Kira Caldwell, the lone senior on the team, saw her career end with a sixth-place finish. She won two matches on Saturday, bringing her season record to 13-13. Caldwell finished in fifth place at the region last year.

Christian County finished in 16th place as a team with 41 points, a five-place improvement from last year.
