
For the Hopkins County Central Lady Storm, it was there for the taking late, but they just could not get a basket when they needed it the most. Marshall County survived a second half comeback attempt from the Lady Storm as the Lady Marshals took a 42-34 win Tuesday night in Mortons Gap.
The Lady Storm battled their way back from a double-digit deficit in the second half and pulled to within four points at 38-34 inside the final two minutes of the contest.
Marshall County seemed ready to let the Lady Storm take the comeback when the Lady Marshals missed four straight free throws. However, Hopkins Central could not take advantage of the opportunities to draw even closer coming down to the wire.
The Lady Marshals were not willing to give the Lady Storm any more chances as they knocked down four straight free throws to close out the game and seal the 8-point win.
The game was a tight and tough defensive battle from the beginning. Central got a big start from Addie Mensler, who scored 8 points in the opening quarter, and trailed Marshall County just 14-12 after one.
Both teams had trouble getting much going offensively in the second quarter. The Lady Marshals’ defense limited the Lady Storm to just one field goal in the second quarter and took a 22-17 lead at the half.
Addi Wall gave Marshall County a spark in the third quarter and helped the Lady Marshals push the lead out to double digits in the quarter. The Marshall County lead would be at 36-25 when the quarter ended.
However, the Lady Storm would not got away on their home floor and fought back but just could not quite get over the hump coming down to the wire as the Lady Marshals left town with the win.
Addie Menser was the only Hopkins County Central player to hit double figures with 12. Bri Dulin added 9 and Tyah White finished the night with 8 points.
Marshall County was paced by Kenzlee Terry with 16 points. Addi Wall also hit double figures with 10.
Hopkins County Central closes out the regular season at 17-11. The Lady Storm now get ready to tip off the 7th District tournament Monday night when they host the Dawson Springs Lady Panthers in the opening semifinal at 6pm.
