The Lyon County Lady Lyons went into their final game of the regular season on Thursday evening against St. Mary having won their last four games. That streak continued with a commanding 79-25 win, as the Lady Lyons were able to take advantage of their home floor against the Lady Vikings.
Lyon County got started early with a 10-0 run to begin the first quarter. St. Mary did not score until there was under four minutes left to play in the period, which led to the Lady Lyons taking a 25-10 lead after the first eight minutes.
The driving force in the quarter was Piper Cotham, who finished it with just under half of the team’s points with 10.
Eve Defew got the second quarter started with a three-pointer, and that was part of a 22-point period where the Lady Lyons further extended their lead. The second ended with a Jenna Coursey layup in the final seconds gave Lyon a 47-20 lead going into the half.
Another run, this time 8-0, started the third quarter off for the Lady Lyons. It was eventually stopped by the Lady Vikings with two and a half minutes gone in the period, but it was too late.
The Lady Lyons had already built up their huge lead, and they were able to close out the game and get their fifth straight win, as well as the victory in their final game of the season.
This is also now the sixth time in a row that Lyon County has come out on top against St. Mary, as the last win the Lady Vikings got in the all-time series was back in December of 2013.
Piper Cotham led the Lady Lyons in scoring with 16 points, 10 of which came in just the first eight minutes of the game. Trinity Taylor and Sloan Cotham were also able to get into double-digits with 10 points apiece.
The Lady Lyons will be looking for their sixth win in a row in their next game on Monday, February 23, in 5th District action against Trigg County. The game will be played at Crittenden County High School and will tip off at 7:30 p.m.
