Freshman Hailey Nutter has had a historic first three weeks of her collegiate softball career.

Sunday against Indiana State the freshman threw her second no-hitter of the season and faced only 22 batters — one hitter reached base on a UK error. She had 12 strikeouts — 50 of her 72 pitches were strikes — and Indiana State did not hit a ball out of the infield.

Nutter became the first player at Kentucky to throw multiple no-hitters since the legendary Kelsey Nunley did it in 2016. Nutter has now matched that feat just three weeks into her freshman season. Her first no-hitter was against Loyola-Chicago in San Diego the first weekend of the season and this one came in Memphis in the Blues City Invitational.

Coach Rachel Lawson’s team is now 12-4 and Nutter has half the wins. She is 6-1 with a 1.71 earned run average in eight appearances with six starts. She has 47 strikeouts in 32 2/3 innings and has allowed only 17 hits and eight earned runs.

Eight of the nine players in Kentucky’s starting order had at least one hit Sunday. Karissa Hamilton had the walk-off single in the bottom of the fifth inning to close the game. Allison Blum and Peyton Plotts both had solo home runs in the first inning. Ella Emmet had her second homer of the weekend — and second of her UK career.

Kentucky has won season-high six games in a row and will host the John Cropp Classic beginning Friday with games against Michigan State and Dayton.
