
The University Heights Blazers and the Trigg County Wildcats faced off on Tuesday evening in a scrimmage before the start of the regular season, and it was UHA who took control and got the 12-4 win in seven innings.
Josh Pace, Jackson Flynn, and Matthew Flynn all pitched two innings for the Blazers, and they were able to combine for 10 strikeouts. The most notable pitching performance for the Wildcats was Jameson Allen, who pitched two innings and punched out four.
At the plate is where the Blazers were really able to get it done, tallying eight hits to Trigg’s one. Cadence Gibson led the way for UHA with three hits, and AJ Hogart led the team in RBIs with three, two of which came from a ground ball that led to him reaching base on an error.
The Wildcat’s lone hit in the game came from center fielder James Garnett in the bottom of the fifth inning with one out.
Trigg will get their second and final chance to win a scrimmage on Thursday, March 12, against the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School.
As for the Blazers, this was their final scrimmage, and they will play their first game of the regular season on Monday, March 16, against Franklin-Simpson. Their game will begin at 6 p.m. at University Heights Academy.
