The Lyon County Lyons were able to win the 2nd Region Tournament last season, so they will be hoping to build on that this year. They got off to a great start on Friday evening with a 12-1 home win against Union County to begin their season.
After the first inning the two teams were tied at one run apiece after both were able to score their first runs on a pair of passed balls. But it was the second inning when the Lyons were able to fully take control.
They were able to load the bases with two outs and Hudson Phillips coming to the plate, and he delivered. He was able to send a home run that scraped over the left field wall to give Lyon a 5-1 lead.
The next couple innings were fairly quiet aside from Cohen Wiggins giving Lyon another run with a single. But then they were able to score six runs in the bottom of the fifth capped off by a double from Payson Oliver to mercy rule the Braves.
Oliver led the way in hits for Lyon with a pair, while Phillips’ grand slam allowed him to lead the team in RBIs. Oliver and Blake Guess were also able to bat in two runs apiece.
Easton White got the start on the mound for the Lyons and pitched all five innings. He allowed just one hit and walked just two batters on his way to racking up six strikeouts and getting the win.
Lyon County will be right back in action on Saturday on the road against the Murray High Tigers. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
