The Lyon County Lady Lyons showed there’s more than one way to win a softball game by sweeping Union County and Paducah Tilghman on Saturday.
It took some late heroics to knock off Union County 5-4. Lyon then needed just five innings to take down Tilghman 14-4 as the Lady Lyons improved to 3-0.
In the opener, Lyon saw Union put up a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning to grab a 4-2 lead.
But Emma Brasher and Audrey Akridge singled back-to-back to start the bottom of the frame. Courtney Collins then brought them end, driving a 1-0 pitch over the fence in left field for a three-run walk-off homer.
Akridge finished the game 2-for-2 and scored twice. Jenna Coursey and Ava Prow each went 2-for-3 for Lyon.
For Union, Audrey Staley and Ashlynn Hargrove each went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Prow earned the win in the circle, allowing three earned runs on nine hits in a complete-game effort. She struck out three and walked three.
Against Tilghman, a six-run second and four-run fifth helped the Lady Lyons prevail 14-4.
Olivia Moore and Jaylen Tackett slammed home runs as Lyon rapped out 16 base hits in the contest.
Prow was 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Moore was 3-for-4 with a solo homer while knocking in two. Coursey and Brooklyn Tackett were each 2-for-4. Jaylen Tackett was 1-for-2 with a two-run home run and four RBIs.
Brooklyn Tackett was the winning pitcher. She gave up three earned runs on five base hits in five innings. Tackett walked six and struck out two.
Lyon’s girls next visit Calloway County on Monday.
