The Lyon County Lyons went into their road game against the Murray High Tigers having just won their season opener against Union County the day before. They were able to build on that win and get their second straight dub to start the year.
Lyon struck first when Payson Oliver was able to score on a passed ball to make it 1-0. Immediately following that, Troy Dorman hit a line drive single that gave the Lyons a 2-0 lead after just their first time at the plate.
Colton Prow drew a walk with the bases loaded in the top of the third to get the team’s third run of the game before the Tigers were able to score their first.
But Murray was able to get going, and they did so with two runs in the home half of the fourth inning. And their next time on offense, the Tigers were able to tie it up at three runs apiece going into the final couple innings of the game.
A hit by pitch and a pair of walks in the top of the seventh loaded the bases for the Lyons, and they were able to capitalize. Carson Lewis hit a single to drive in Hudson Phillips and Easton White, and that gave the team a 5-3 lead.
Despite a double from Murray with one out, the Lyons’ pitching was able to get it done and close out the game for the team’s second straight win to start the season.
Phillips got the start on the mound for Lyon, and he was able to go 4.2 innings. He allowed four hits, but was also able to tally four strikeouts in the win. Oliver pitched the last two innings of the game, and allowed just one hit on his way to closing out the game with a pair of punch outs.
Lewis led the way for the Lyons at the plate with his pair of RBIs, while Prow and Dorman had the other two.
Lyon will be looking for their third in a row in their next game on Monday, March 23, against the Webster County Trojans. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Webster County High School.
