Trigg County was two outs away from snapping a 17-game losing streak to Lyon County on Tuesday, but Cohen Wiggins had other ideas.
The junior laced a two-run triple to right field to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning and scored on a wild pitch to give the Lyons a 5-4 win over the Wildcats.
Trigg County broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning when Bentley Reynolds led off with a double and scored on a throwing error on a grounder hit by James Garnett.
The Wildcats added what they thought at the time was an insurance run when Noah Hawkins singled and came around to score on a two-out hit by Garnett.

Looking to lock down Trigg’s first win over the Lyons since the 2018 district tournament, Ty Gootee set down 12 of the 13 Lyon batters he faced entering the seventh inning.
However, Axel Bingham laid down a perfect one-out bunt along the third base line to reach safely. A Trigg fielding error put runners at first and second before Wiggins tripled to right on a 2-2 pitch to tie the game at 4-4.
Hudson Phillips was intentionally walked to set up a potential double play that never materialized with a wild pitch scoring Wiggins to end the game.
Gootee struck out eight and walked three while giving up five hits. He was adept at keeping Lyon County off balance, with the exception of Wiggins, who had three hits and finished a home run shy of the cycle. Wiggins also scored twice for the Lyons, who were outhit 6-5.
Gootee got Trigg County on the board in the first inning with a two-run single that scored Reynolds (walk) and Garnett (reached on error).

Lyon County tied the game in the third when Jacob McDaniels led off with a walk, and Wiggins followed with a single. Hudson Phillips singled in a run, and Wiggins would score on a groundout to even the game.
Paysen Oliver threw 13 pitches, got two outs, and picked up the win for the Lyons. Easton White went the first 6.1 innings, allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out six.
Tuesday’s game was the district opener for both teams. Trigg County (1-3, 0-1) and Lyon County (3-1, 1-0) will meet again on Thursday at the Trigg Rec Complex.
