
Trigg County and Lyon County played a dramatic district game on Tuesday that was decided by three Lyons’ runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in a 5-4 win in Eddyville.
On Thursday, there was no such drama.
Lyon County scored in every inning, including a seven-spot in the fourth inning, to hand the Wildcats a 15-3 loss at the Trigg Rec Complex.
The win was Lyon County’s 19th straight over Trigg dating back to 2018, and moves them to 2-0 in the district standings.
Hudson Phillips tripled in a run on the game’s seventh pitch, and Payson Oliver followed with an RBI single in the ninth pitch to stake the Lyons to a quick 2-0 lead.
Oliver would add a two-run triple in the second inning as the Lyons scored three times in each of the first two innings.
Lyon County dropped the hammer with a seven-run fourth inning highlighted by a bases-clearing double by Phillips, who finished 3 for 3 with four RBI and a triple.
Oliver was 3 for 4 with four RBI, and Cohen Wiggins, the hero in Tuesday’s win with a late triple, added two more hits from the lead-off spot as the Lyons totaled 12 hits and stole nine bases.
Trigg County finished with 10 hits – all singles. Bentley Reynolds and Carson Kline each had a pair of hits.
The Wildcats scored their three runs in the fifth inning on RBI hits from Cannon Scott and Grady Oliphant.
Phillips struck out 10, with none of the three runs he allowed being earned.
UP NEXT
Lyon County (4-3, 2-0) will host McLean County (5-2) on Friday and play three out-of-state teams to begin next week at the Clarksville Academy.
Trigg County (1-4, 0-2) will host Union County (1-4) on Friday night. They will play Hopkins County Central (2-2) on Saturday at 2:00 at Fort Campbell in a Class 2A Sectional game at Fort Campbell. Trigg will play the Falcons (0-2) at 4:00.
