Kentucky Mr. Basketball Jake Feldhaus of Madison Central signed with Belmont in November but has been given his release.

Coach Casey Alexander, who signed Feldhaus and three others in November, left Belmont to become the head coach at Kansas State and Duke assistant Evan Bradds was named Belmont’s new coach March 19. However, Duke is still alive in the NCAA Tournament and will play St. John’s Friday night.

Duke is the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and if it reaches the title game Bradds will be with Duke through April 6 and the transfer portal opens April 7.

“He just wanted to keep his options open until he has a chance to meet and get to know coach Bradds,” Madison Central coach Allen Feldhaus, Jake’s uncle, said. “Coach Bradds understood when Jake told him and said as soon as Duke is finished playing he will be heading to Richmond to recruit him.

“Jake just felt he  needed to have all his options open and wanted to have some flexibility if needed when the transfer portal opens.”

When Alexander signed Feldhaus in November, he called him an “athletic, tough, competitive winner” who had his best basketball ahead of him.

“His versatility will serve him well in the Missouri Valley Conference,” Alexander said then.

Social media posts circulated Thursday indicating Feldhaus might be headed to Kentucky where his father, Deron, and grandfather, Allen Sr., played or might be ready to stay in Richmond and play for Eastern Kentucky.

Allen Feldhaus says those rumors were not true and that Jake Feldhaus could still end up at Belmont once he gets to talk with Bradds.

Madison Central finished 30-4 and the 6-foot-8 Feldhaus had 30 double-doubles. He averaged 13 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.8 blocks per game. He shot 57 percent from the field and had 27 3-point goals.

  1. Wow! Been around 90yrs and know talent when I see it-we got an absolute JEWEL!
If he is to be a back up point, then I really want to see who the starter at point is going to be.

  2. How about this Feldhaus kid? Did he put up big numbers playing against a bunch of runts or can he play? The Williams kid was a good pickup, but he will be a starter in 2 years. We need a proven performer at the point next year. Chandler, Moreno, and Jelavic are all primed to have a big year next season IF they have a pass first point guard who gets them the ball at the right place and right time. I think we will get Stokes, but a season point guard will keep him in place even if Pope can't do it himself. Run the offense through the post and kick out to the arc when double teams come. Moreno and Jelavic could average 36/16/12 as a double post duo. Stokes and Chandler will get plenty of shots too IF we have the right point guard. Can you say Tyler Tanner of Vandy?

  3. If he’s a Feldhaus, he’s a winner for UK!
Recruit Kentucky natives & don’t run them off in favor of giving minutes to the traveling portal jumpers who play selfish & wont share the ball! Stop “hiring” street ballers.
