James Garnett’s two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning capped an improbable Trigg County comeback that saw the Wildcats rally from 11 runs down to beat Union County 17-16 on Friday.
Down 12-1 heading into potentially their final at-bat, Trigg scored seven runs in the fifth to keep the game going.
Booth teams scored three runs in the sixth inning, and Union County added a run in the seventh to take a 16-11 lead into Trigg’s final at bat.
A walk and two Braves errors plated Trigg’s first run of the inning. Noah Hawkins added an RBI single and Carson Kline drew a bases-loaded walk to set up Garnett’s game-winner.
Kline pitched the final five innings to get the pitching win, striking out eight and allowing four earned runs.
Jon Humohries had two hits and three RBI for the Wildcats, while Hawkins and Bentley Reynolds also had two hits. Ty Gootee doubled and drove in three.
Max Nobles had four of Union County’s 12 hits and drove in two. Colby Heppler, batting ninth in the order, had two hits and five RBI for the Braves.
Friday’s win over Union County snapped a four-game losing streak to the Braves that dated back to the 2017 season.
