
The University Heights Academy Lady Blazers finished tied for 10th place on Saturday at the Invitational of the South at Marshall County High School, highlighted by multiple top-three finishes in the sprints and relays.
Running Events
The Lady Blazers were paced by senior Ajae Oatts, who turned in a pair of top-three finishes in the sprint events.
Oatts placed third in the 100-meter finals with a personal-best 13.16 after running 13.28 in the preliminaries to qualify. She followed that by taking third in the 200 meters with a season-best 27.46, giving UHA two podium finishes on the track.
Eighth-grader Amoree Owens also delivered a strong meet. Owens posted a personal-best 13.97 in the 100-meter preliminaries, then returned to finish sixth in the 400 meters with a personal-best 1:05.73.
Seventh-grader Cassie Keller added a personal-best 31.17 to place 26th in the 200 meters, while Emma Flynn ran a personal-best 14.84 in the 100-meter preliminaries.
In the middle-distance events, Flynn also turned in a strong performance in the 800 meters, finishing 10th with a personal-best 2:44.44.
UHA’s best relay result came in the 800-meter relay, where the team of Palin Hampton, Kendall Hancock, Ajae Oatts, and Amoree Owens placed second with a time of 1:52.77.
Field Events
In the shot put, Audrey Lovell led UHA with a throw of 15-3.5, while Rhyss Sallie posted a personal-best 13-10.
In the discus, Lovell again led the team with a mark of 36-5, and Sallie added a personal-best 31-10.
Palin Hampton placed eighth in the long jump with a season-best leap of 13-10, while Cassie Keller followed in 10th with a personal-best 13-4.5.
In the triple jump, Hampton finished 10th with a mark of 27-2, and Keller added a 14th-place finish with a personal-best 25-6.5.
UHA’s team total of 25 points tied them with Mayfield for 10th place. They were one point behind ninth-place Paducah Tilghman.
