University Heights and Fort Campbell went into their Monday evening game against one another in very different spots. The Blazers had won five games in a row while the Falcons had lost five games in a row.
Both of those streaks continued, as the Blazers were able to fully take advantage of their home field and get the commanding 17-2 victory.
Fort Campbell struck first in the opening inning with a pair of runs from a wild pitch turned error by UHA. But after those two runs it was all Blazers.
University Heights also got their first run of the game on a wild pitch, and they were able to get three more in the bottom of the first to take a 4-2 lead.
Hayden Hunt was then able to hit a two-run shot to center field in the bottom of the second inning to extend UHA’s lead to four runs. But the third was where the Blazers’ offense was able to explode and take full control.
They broke out and scored 10 runs off of some wild pitches from the Falcons, as well as a trio of singles and a double. This allowed the Blazers to pull away and get the 17-2 win for their sixth straight win.
Aiden Jones got the start on the mound for the Blazers, but Cadence Gibson took over after starting the game in the infield. He pitched the majority of the game with a pair of innings, and he racked up five strikeouts in the process.
As for the Falcons, Donavan Brown started and pitched the first two innings. He got three punch outs of his own, but the Blazers’ offense was just too hot.
At the plate, Jones led University Heights in RBIs with three, while Hunt and Jackson Flynn each got two. For Fort Campbell, Francisco Ramirez and Jeremiah Brewer had the two hits for the team.
Fort Campbell will still be in search of their first win of the season in their next game on Thursday, April 2, against the Trojans of Webster County. First pitch of that game will be at 6 p.m. at Webster County High School.
For the Blazers, they will be looking for their seventh straight win on Tuesday March 31, against Daviess County. Their game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Daviess County High School.
