Brian Robinson Getting Better Every Day

Brian Robinson, left, with Willie Rodriguez, then UK recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow and Cutter Boley on his recruiting visit to Kentucky.

Brian Robinson was one of the stars of Kentucky’s 2024 recruiting class. He was a unanimous four-star recruit that then recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow brought to Kentucky from Ohio. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound Robinson was ranked as the nation’s 79th best player by ESPN and was a consensus top 200 recruit and top 10 recruit out of Ohio.

He picked Kentucky over Michigan and Penn State but also had offers from Georgia, Notre Dame, USC, Auburn, Texas A&M, Tennessee and others.

Robinson played briefly against Ohio and Murray State in 2024 during his redshirt season. Last season he practiced with the team but did not play. Most expected he would transfer after Marrow and then head coach Mark Stoops left  UK but he stayed and now defensive line coach Anwar Stewart is liking what he has seen from him during spring practice.

“He is getting better and better every day. That is the expectation that we all get better,” said UK’s defensive line coach. “I don’t do the depth chart. They (players) do the depth chart. Brian has to earn the right like every other young man on this team to play.

“That’s what he is doing. He is in the weight room and coming early, leaving late, He is doing all the things he needs to do to get on the field. That is what it is about.”

  1. I remember when he signed most recruiting analyst said he would get PT as a true freshman because he already had the body to play in high school. It wasn't his body that kept him off the field it was learning the plays, the system, and just letting him play more free. Most redshirt freshman on the defensive line rarely play unless there is injuries so he's not far behind schedule or anything. He still has 3 years of eligibility and starting this year you will see start seeing the real Brian Robinson. He's going to be much better in a 4 down front compared to Stoops and Whites 3-4 defense. I think he will get playing time this year as a backup. Then I think his junior and senior years he will start. I think he can be a NFL defensive lineman as long as he continues to work like he's been doing this off-season. It shows he has a strong head on his shoulders. Most players would have pretty much gave up being a top 100 recruit and a high 4*. Everyone expected him to play as a true freshman then start his second year. He also didn't get more playing time last year because we were in a situation at the end of the year where Stoops had to play who he thought would win us the game. Even tho Stoops couldn't get a win in the last two games and why wouldn't Stoops have played him against Louisville?? We got beat by 41 points why wouldn't you start playing everyone in the second half down by 31? I guess Stoops thought they could come back. I also have heard Dillingham is mad they spent as much as they did on Boley. He's "turnover prone". If you watched the games last year you knew this already. It's the same reason Stein didn't want to tell him he would be the starter. Boley will be a good QB his junior and senior year but I think he's in for another developmental year. He will have about the same type of year as last year. He might do a little better. Which I think he takes a small step up because the competition he will be playing against will be nowhere near as good as the SEC. He will get close to 3,000 yards this year but he will have a bunch of interceptions. I think his junior year he starts getting much more accurate and his senior year he will be one of the better QBs in college football. The problem is Kentucky didnt have 1-2 years to wait on the lightbulb to come on for him. We needed someone who can win now. Insert Kenny Minchey. He's ready now to lead a team to the promised land. I do think he will take some bumps and bruises early taking a step up in competition playing in the SEC. I do think by the middle of the season if he can stay healthy he will start to hit his stride. I do believe Kenny Minchey can have a second or third team SEC type of year which will set him up for a monster senior season.

  2. WOW….UK just got the #2 rated QB in the country in Nawrot for next year. CONGRATS…Fine with Stein!!
