After starting the season with only two wins in their first nine outings, the Todd County Central Rebels seem to have found their stride with four straight wins after Friday’s 9-7 victory over hosts Crittenden County.
The Rebels broke through against Crittenden starting pitcher Drake Young with four runs in the top of the 4th, including RBI doubles by Kody Kemp and Waylon Lanier.
Todd Central doubled the advantage with four more runs in the 5th, highlighted by Ty Jolly’s run-scoring double and a second RBI two-bagger by Kemp.
Crittenden County climbed back into the game with three runs in the 6th courtesy of a pair of Rebel errors, and Young’s RBI double capped a four-run 7th. However, with a runner at third and the tying run at the plate, Todd Central’s Jacob Jackson coaxed a fly out to end the game.
Noah Rager earned the win on the mound, allowing seven runs, only one earned, on eight hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Jackson got the save with a walk, a strikeout, and a hit in one inning of work.
Kemp finished 3/3 with three RBI to lead the Rebels at the plate. Lanier had a hit and drove in two, Jolly and Johnson had a hit and an RBI each, and Camden McGehee drove in a run.
Young took the loss as the Rockets slipped to 5-9 ahead of a trip to Caldwell County on Saturday. He surrendered eight runs, four earned, on five hits with six strikeouts and three walks.
Young also collected two hits and drove in three runs, and Quinn Summers and Jaxton Duncan both hit safely twice with an RBI for the Rockets.
Todd Central improved to 6-7 ahead of a 13th-District clash at Logan County on Monday. The Rebels have dropped the last three in the series with the Cougars.
