Will Stein Glad Blue-White Game Was Not Televised

When Kentucky announced it was having its Blue-White Game at 11 a.m. the speculation was that would lead to the game being televised with the SEC Network a likely spot.

Instead, Saturday’s Blue-White Game at Kroger Field was not televised and that suited new UK coach Will Stein just fine.

“I told (defensive coordinator) Jay (Bateman) and (offensive coordinator) Joe (Sloan) be simple. You never know. I’m not saying anybody … you don’t know who’s in the stands,” Stein said after Saturday’s intrasquad scrimmage. “We’re close to a lot of people and that’s just a fact. So, we huddled a lot. We hid our signals. We didn’t do any special teams.

“You can go on YouTube and look up spring football games throughout the country and watch what spring ball looks like at other schools. There’s not a lot of broadcasted games nationally because all you do as a coach is get the TV copy, you splice it, and you study it.”

Kentucky hosts Youngstown State Sept. 5 to open the season and then hosts Alabama Sept. 12 in what could be UK’s biggest game of the season.

Stein and his new staff can keep opposing coaches guessing all summer about exactly what UK will do offensively and defensively next season. That makes advance game planning much harder even if opponents will know UK’s personnel. Odds are Stein will not want to show a lot on either offense or defense against  Youngstown State if possible as well.

Some coaches also don’t like having spring games televised so opposing coaches cannot scout players who may later enter the transfer portal.

  1. I don't think players should be able to leave in the transfer portal after spring practice. Coaches could pay scouts to join a team and then pay them to come back. To get inside Intel. If you don't think is happening then your not accustomed to the new college football. Coaches do anything to win. If this does happen I think the player and the coach should be barred from college football. That's the ultimate form of cheating.
I'm more excited about football then I have ever been. I think this Kentucky team has the right chops to make some noise in the SEC this year.

  2. The Kentucky vs Louisville game and the Kentucky vs Florida game are the two biggest games on the schedule. 80% of our recruiting battles are between these teams and Sumrall is the coach of Florida and of course Brohm is the coach of Louisville. Stein will need to win both of these games this year.
