LEXINGTON, Ky. – Mason Williams, a four-star point guard out of Tennessee Collegiate Academy, has signed on to join the Kentucky men’s basketball team for the 2027 season.
As a high school prospect, Williams is ranked No. 109 overall in the class of 2026 by 247Sports and No. 124 by Rivals. He stands at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds.
During his senior campaign, Williams averaged 15.1 points, 5.3 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals. He shot 60 percent from the field, 41 percent from 3-point range and 89 percent from the foul line. In perhaps the most notable outing of his senior year, Williams had 23 points, five rebounds and five assists as Tennessee Collegiate Academy upset No. 1 ranked Prolific Prep in November.
Before joining TCA, Williams played for Germantown High School in Gluckstadt, Mississippi where he helped lead his team to its first ever state title in 2025. He also won a state title in 2024 while playing at Jackson Academy in Jackson, Mississippi, alongside his brother, Michael.
Williams is the son of new Kentucky assistant, Mo Williams, a 13-year NBA veteran who most recently served as the head coach at Jackson State. The elder Williams was an NBA All-Star in 2009 and won an NBA Championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016.
Williams is a native of Dallas and chose the Wildcats among other offers including Texas Tech, Memphis, Ole Miss and Washington.

We now have 3 average point guards and no knock down shooting 2 guard. Pope is lost and doesn't have a clue about how to correct this.
Think he is trying, Barry, but no one seems to want to
play for the Cats. This situation must be corrected,
immediately. BB program is in a severe recruiting
slump.
I agree. Pope has shown that he is not up to the job. He should resign or be fired immediately. Billy Donovan is looking for another coaching gig but my money says he won't wait until the end of next year to find one. The Golden State Warriors may very well go after him if Steve Kerr steps down. Kansas, Michigan State, and possibly St. Johns (Pitino isn't going to live forever) could all be looking for a new head coach at the end of next year. Why wait to do battle with these schools? Pope claimed that he knew the assignment but he has failed the test. Let him go back to medical school and go after Donovan NOW!
I don't think it's that nobody wants to play for the Cats. I think it's nobody wants to play for Pope and Freemans comment woke alot of Kentucky fans up. Nobody wants to play for someone who doesn't push them to be a better player. It sounds like Pope doesn't have the right sales pitch. You can't just say hey this is Kentucky and players want to sign on the dotted line. Players want to know what you are going to do to make them a better basketball player snd that's a question I think Pope has a hard time with. Freeman played Popes position and he still couldn't get him to sign. That because Pitino has tough love. I'm going to talk bad to you and get on your butt in hopes of motivating you to become the best version of yourself. Or I'm going to baby you never yell at you in hopes that you will reach deep within yourself and become the best version of yourself. Pope has no mouth piece. He doesn't have the gift of gab that the Pitinos and Cals have that made them great. Pope either needs to try to recreate himself or he will lose not only this job but any credibility as being a head coach. Most places say if you can't win at Kentucky with deep pockets then you cant win here. So he has pretty much smeared his name in the dirt at this point.
What it all boils down to is; Pope is not the man for the job.
I hate to say that because he is a Wildcat, and bleeds blue.
But UK needs a proven and respected winner and recruiter
to turn this thing around. Pitino or Donovan either one could
probably do it, along with a few other current coaches.
Which is what we fans expected when Cal left.
Don't know what is going to happen, but am afraid next
season is not going to be a lot of fun for UK basketball fans.
Has there ever been a higher level recruit attainment process that has resulted with this much failure? It seems that about 80% of our targets or rumored UK leans have said "thanks for allowing me to take advantage of your recruiting bennies, but I am out of here". Pope may look the part, be one of us, want to be everyone's friend, but his style and closing attempts apparently inspire no one. One would think the tradition, the town, the campus, the banners hanging in Rupp, the people surrounding the program would assist to some degree before the ineptitude of Pope rules the day. This doesn't say much about his staff either. I remember we were all told these assistant coaches all had good recruiting resumes. We continue to be the most ridiculed team on the national stage.
Mitch Barnhart will step down entirely on June 30th. Will not be doing another job at UK its been confirm.
