The University Heights Blazers and the Fort Campbell Falcons faced off in the first round of the 8th District Tournament on Monday evening. Despite losing their last three games of the regular season, UHA was able to bounce right back with a 12-0 win to advance to the championship.

It did not take long for the Blazers to get going, as they got it started with five runs in the bottom of the first inning with a pair of singles and a Jackson Flynn double.

They were then able to score five more in the second, and that was helped by both Courtland and Cadence Gibson getting RBI base knocks.

Flynn then got another hit that scored two more runs in the bottom of the third inning to extend the lead all the way to 12 runs for UHA. After that, all it took was the team’s pitching to close it out and force the mercy rule win.

Jackson Flynn got the start on the mound for the Blazers, and pitched the first two innings and tallying three strikeouts. His brother, Matthew, then came in to relieve him and struck out the side in his one inning of work.

Courtland Gibson led the way for UHA at the plate with three hits, while Jackson Flynn led the team in RBIs with three. As for the Falcons, they had five players tally a base hit, but they could never score any of those runs against the UHA pitching.

The University Heights Blazers will be in action on Tuesday, May 19, against the Christian County Colonels in the district championship game. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at University Heights Academy.
