Pairings Set for Boys 2nd Region Tournament

Pairings are now set for the 2nd Region boys’ basketball tournament which will get underway Tuesday night at four locations. The pairings were set during a Zoom meeting of school officials Saturday morning.

In the first round of play, the district winners will host the games at 6:30pm Tuesday.

The top game in the bracket will find Madisonville-North Hopkins, the champions out of the 7th District hosting Union County, runners-up out of the 6th District. The Maroons enter the week at 22-8, while Union County comes in at 19-9. The two teams played back on January 11 in Madisonville with the Maroons taking a 74-61 win.

The other game in the top half of the bracket will find 5th District champion Lyon County hosting 8th District runner-up Christian County. The Lyons enter the game with a record of 25-6 and have not lost a game all season to a 2nd Region opponent. Christian County comes into the tournament at 10-22. The Colonels lost a double-overtime heartbreaker to Hopkinsville in the 8th District championship game. The two teams did not play this season.

The bottom half of the bracket has Henderson County, the 6th District champions hosting Hopkins County Central, the runners-up in the 7th District. Henderson County stands at 18-12, while the Storm are 14-12 on the season. Hopkins Central stunned Caldwell County in the 7th District semis to earn a regional tournament berth. The Colonels and the Storm did not meet on the court this season.

The final game of the first round will have 8th District champion Hopkinsville hosting 5th District runner-up Crittenden County. Hopkinsville comes into the regional tournament at 21-6, while the Rockets are 14-16. The two teams did not play in the regular season.

The semifinals will be at 6:00 and 7:30 Thursday night. The championship game is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 4:00. The semifinals and finals will be played at Hopkinsville High School.

Tickets will be $10.00 at the gate.
