It is hard to win basketball games when the ball does not go in the hoop. That issue plagued the Lyon County Lady Lyons in a very costly fashion Saturday afternoon on the south side of Owensboro.
Daviess County limited the Lady Lyons to just two field goals during the first half as the Lady Panthers rolled to a 53-32 win on their home floor.
Daviess County took a 12-4 lead after the opening quarter. Lexi Holland had the only field goal for Lyon County in the first.
As good a job as the Lady Panther defense did in the first quarter, they were even better in the second. Lyon County scored only three points in the second quarter as the Daviess County lead grew to 24-7 at the half. Lilly Perry had the only basket for Lyon County in the second.
Daviess County came out of the locker room and continued to pull away. Led by Adylan Ayer, who scored 11 points in the third quarter, the Lady Panthers extended the lead to 45-20 at the end of the third.
The Lady Panthers would then put it on cruise control and ride it on out to the 21-point win.
Lyon County was led by Emma Brasher and Trinity Taylor with six points each. Piper Cotham and Lexi Holland added five each.
For Daviess County, Adylan Ayer was the only player to hit double figures as she led all scorers in the game with 30 points.
The loss drops the Lady Lyons to 4-10 on the season. The Lady Lyons are off until Thursday when they will play in the semifinals of the girls’ 2nd Region All A Classic at University Heights.
