
Caldwell County got off to a hot start and appeared on its way to a win in its Senior Night volleyball match against Christian County.
However, the Lady Colonels turned things around in the third set, rallied to take the fourth set, then won the contest in the fifth set.
In the end, Christian County left Princeton Thursday night with a 24-26, 17-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-11 victory.
The Lady Colonels end the regular season with a record of 18-10. Christian County will face Heritage Christian Academy Tuesday in the semifinal round of the 8th District tournament.
Caldwell, now 14-15, threatened to end Thursday’s matchup in three sets. The Lady Tigers rallied from down 17-12 in the set to get within 23-22. But Christian won the next two points to take the set.
Caldwell had another chance in the fourth set, pulling ahead late to lead 22-18. However, the Lady Colonels took seven of the next eight points to win 25-23 and force a deciding fifth set.
Christian never trailed in the final set, although the teams were tied at 5-5 and 11-11. The Lady Colonels won the last four points of the night to finish off the match.
Caldwell’s Brylee Butts had 18 kills, two blocks, six digs and two aces. Rylee Thompson recorded nine kills, a team-high 27 digs and two aces while Kylee White had 32 set assists to go with nine digs and a kill.
Senior Ellie Ramey had seven kills, 16 digs and two aces while classmate T.J. Goodwin added 19 digs.
Benashka Thomas finished with five kills, three blocks and two digs. Anna Giltz tallied 10 digs, two kills and two assists.
Morgan Aikins had two kills and three digs while Tink Clark had nine digs.
Christian County was led by Skylar Kirby and Camryn Armstrong, who had 17 and 15 kills, respectively. Armstrong added four blocks while Kirby had two blocks and three service aces.
Rylee Owens had a team-high 27 digs along with five kills and seven assists. Peyton Owens recorded 18 assists and eight digs along with two kills and four aces while Ashlea Russell had 15 assists and 10 digs.
Anaysia Bagwell had four kills and six digs while Kaidence Atwell and Aaliyah Bacon had two kills apiece. Bacon also had three digs.
Shiloh Baker and Alaina Lee each totaled seven digs.
Caldwell’s girls will finish the regular season on Saturday when they host Todd County Central and Graves County for a tri-match starting at 10 a.m.
The Lady Tigers will play in the championship match of the 7th District tournament on Tuesday, facing either Madisonville-North Hopkins or Hopkins County Central in Mortons Gap.
