Joshua Tharpe and Christian Magsby combined for a two-hit shutout Thursday, leading the Clarksville Northwest High School baseball team to a 7-0 home win over Fort Campbell.
Tharpe struck out six and walked just two during his six-inning effort on the mound. Magsby struck out a pair in a hitless inning of relief. The Vikings (9-4) overcame three defensive errors with some timely hitting, including a double and two RBI from Hunter Swanson, who went 2-for-2 with a run scored.
Northwest scored a run in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead for good. The five-spot for the Vikings in the third gave them a big cushion against Falcons starting pitcher Michael Anderson.
Anderson (2-5) went the distance in defeat, allowing eight hits, seven runs (three earned), and two walks in six innings. He also struck out two, giving him a team-best 30 K’s in 2024.
FCHS was led offensively by Tanner Starnater, who had one of the two Falcon hits, which was also his first double of the season. Marquell Hunt had the other hit. The rest of the lineup combined to go 0-for-16.
Fort Campbell (3-17) has now dropped four straight games and six of its last seven overall. The Falcons will try to right the ship next week when they take on host Trigg County at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
