Emma Dowell picked a good time to shoot her career-best score.

The Trigg County junior shot an 83 at Monday’s Class 2A State Tournament at the Owensboro Country Club and finished tied for ninth place. She’s the first Trigg girls’ golfer to crack the top 10 at the 2A State Tourney.

Dowell began her day on the back nine and made par on five of her first six holes. She went out with a 41.

She was a little more up and down on the front nine where she had two birdies and four bogeys to come in with a 42.

Dowell played well on the par 3s (+2) and par 5s (+2).

Rowan County’s Athena Singh blistered the course with a 6-under-par 66 to win the individual title. She birdied eight holes and bogeyed two.

Murray won the team title by 10 shots over Allen County-Scottsville.
