Logan Terry, Dru Lile and Eli Redpath had two goals apiece as Madisonville-North Hopkins blanked cross-county rival Hopkins County Central Tuesday night in Mortons Gap.
Hopkins Central (2-4-2 overall, 0-1 7th District) did a good job of staying in the match early, but once the Maroons started to roll it was difficult for the Storm to keep up.
Terry scored the game’s first goal in the 19th minute on a through ball from Dom Blanford.
Madisonville (7-5, 2-0) struck again in the 23rd minute when Reagan Wilson’s shot from the right side went off the goalkeeper’s hands and found its way into the net.
Lile’s first goal came in the 28th minute when he scored from the top of the box. Noah Mays picked up an assist on the play.
Mays also got an assist in the 36th minute when Redpath scored from in front following a corner kick. That made it 4-0.
Hopkins Central had some excitement in the 40th minute when Cohl Hoard appeared to get one over the keeper on a long strike from the right side. However, that ball actually went over the crossbar before finding its way into the net and was waved off.
Madisonville dominated the second half, putting up four goals in 17 minutes to end the game early on the mercy rule.
Terry knocked home a penalty kick in the 52nd minute.
Nash Tapp scored from near the far post on a pass across the front of the net from Redpath in the 55th minute.
Redpath dribbled in and scored unassisted in the 56th minute.
Lile got help from Terry in the 57th minute to score the eighth goal and stop the contest.
Madisonville ended the night with a 26-3 advantage in shots.
William Clevenger made 10 saves for Hopkins Central.
Hunter Gamblin needed to make just one stop for Madisonville, which wrapped up the No. 1 seed for the district tournament with the win.
The Maroons next host South Warren Friday night before entertaining Marshall County Saturday morning.
Hopkins Central visits Grayson County on Thursday.
