Kentucky coach Mark Pope will be in familiar territory when the Wildcats take on No. 7 Gonzaga on Saturday night in Seattle.
The Kentucky coach played his high school basketball at Newport High School in Bellevue, Wash., and played two seasons at the University of Washington before transferring to Kentucky.
“I don’t get to go back to Seattle that much (and) so I’m excited to go back,” Pope said. “I’ll see a bunch of high school teammates I think who are coming to the game and get a chance to sit with (high school) coach (Richard) Belcher, who I love so much and I am excited to see him.”
Pope added his parents no longer reside in Seattle, but his siblings still call it home.
“’I’ll get to see them be at the game,” he said. “It was a great city, and I have a ton of love for it. I’m excited to get back.”
