Former Caldwell County standout Matt Fraliex is stepping down after one season as boys’ basketball head coach at Dawson Springs.
Fraliex made the announcement Wednesday night on social media.
“After time spent in thought and prayer, I have made the decision to step down as both a teacher and the boys’ basketball coach at Dawson Springs, effective at the end of the year.”
Fraliex and the Panthers went 11-16 this year. Dawson Springs claimed a regular-season 7th District win over Madisonville-North Hopkins, but fell to Hopkins County Central in the district tournament semifinals.
Fraliex was a star player at Caldwell and is still the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,941 points. He was on the last district championship team at Caldwell in 2007. He was a finalist for Kentucky Mr. Basketball and played in the Kentucky-Indiana All-Star Series.
Fraliex went on to play college basketball at Murray State University for two seasons before transferring to Mid-Continent University.
In 2021, Fraliex was named girls’ basketball head coach at Todd County Central. He went 8-16 in one season with the Lady Rebels before returning to Caldwell as an assistant coach on the boys’ team.
Fraliex then spent two years as boys’ head coach at Crittenden County, but faced a serious rebuilding situation with the Rockets.
Crittenden went 3-25 in his first season, but endured a winless 0-26 campaign in 2025.
Dawson joins several area schools, including Caldwell County, Livingston Central and Todd Central, who are looking for new basketball coaches. The new consolidated Christian County High School will introduce its first boys’ basketball head coach Friday morning.
