Wildcats Take 6th Place at Muhlenberg County

Trigg County came in sixth place at Saturday’s Muhlenberg County Track and Field Invitational in Greenville.

A.J. Wharton led the Wildcats in the field events by clearing 5 feet, 6 inches to finish third in the high jump and added a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 17 feet, 7 inches.

Trigg County also got strong showings from its relay teams, with all four earning points toward the team score.

The Wildcats’ best relay finish came in the 400-meter relay, where Travis Cavanaugh, A.J. Wharton, Gio Pantoja, and Jenson Nolte placed fourth in a season-best 46.47.

The 800-meter relay team of Cavanaugh, Wharton, Pantoja, and Mykai Anderson finished fifth in 1:39.47.

The Wildcats added two more fifth-place relay finishes in the longer events. The 1600-meter relay team of Brody Renfroe, Cavanaugh, Mykai Anderson, and Dekon Perry posted a season-best 3:53.43, while the 3200-meter relay squad of Renfroe, Dominic Skinner, Joseph Ethridge, and Perry crossed in 9:23.59.

On the track, Perry took fourth in the 400 meters in a personal-best 54.95. Ethridge also scored in the distance events, finishing ninth in the 800 meters with a personal-best 2:22.85.

In the sprints, Jenson Nolte placed ninth in the 100 meters in a personal-best 11.87, while Karmelo Dixon also set a personal best in the event at 13.46.

In the 200 meters, both Mykai Anderson and Zamonte Cavanaugh turned in personal-best efforts, with Anderson running 25.58 and Cavanaugh finishing in 26.12.

Trigg County also picked up points in the jumps behind Zamonte Cavanaugh, who placed seventh in the long jump with a personal-best 17 feet, and Karmelo Dixon, who finished sixth in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 33 feet, 3 inches.

In the distance races, Dominic Skinner ran a personal-best 5:19.52 in the 1600 meters, while Grant Gallogly also posted a personal-best 5:30.68 in the same event. Skinner was 14th, and Galogly was 16th.

Cameron Crawford, a seventh-grader, finished 11th in the 3200 meters in 13:18.71.

In the hurdles, Dixon ran 55.27 in the 300-meter hurdles to finish in 11th place.

In the throws, Mac Alexander finished 11th in the shot put at 33-05.

Trigg County scored 39 points to finish sixth. They were 27 points behind fifth-place Muhlenberg County and six points ahead of seventh-place University Heights Academy.
