Caldwell County used an 18-0 run in the first half to seize control at Dawson Springs. The Tigers went on to post an 82-52 victory Monday night in 7th District basketball action.
The homestanding Panthers tried to keep things close early.
Kolby Williams hit two 3-pointers and had 10 points in the first quarter for the Panthers. A Williams 12-footer put Dawson up 13-12 with 2:18 left in the opening stanza.
But Caldwell answered with a 3-pointer from John Davis and ran off the final 13 points of the period to go up 25-13 after one quarter.
A bucket by Derrin Boyd and another 3 from Davis gave the Tigers a 30-13 advantage just 38 seconds into the second period.
Caldwell (15-8 overall, 3-3 district) led by as much as 26 points in the first half before taking a 51-29 advantage to the break.
Dawson (9-14, 0-5) could not make a run at the Tigers in the second half. Instead, Caldwell extended its lead to 69-43 entering the final frame.
The Tigers’ biggest lead reached 34 points at 77-43 on a putback by Jude East with 6:04 left in the game.
Boyd topped the Caldwell scoresheet with 21 points while Davis added 15. Cole Smiley had 10 points and 10 rebounds while Jabrion Spikes netted nine points off the bench. Adarius Riley had eight points, six rebounds and four assists.
Williams led Dawson Springs with 16 points. Landon Pace added 12.
Caldwell returns to action on Tuesday with a trip to Crittenden County.
Dawson also plays again on Tuesday, visiting Trigg County.
