Lyon County Post 68 to Play in Regional Tournament Opener

The Lyon County Post 68 Aces will open up the American Legion Baseball Great Lakes Regional Tournament on Wednesday morning.

Lyon County plays in Game 1 of the event, facing Pennysylvania state runner-up Hempfield East Post 981 at 8:30 a.m. in Charleston, Ill.

Hempfield East is 26-6 on the season while Lyon County is 15-5-1.

Post 68, the Kentucky state champion, is one of eight American Legion programs in the regional.

With a win Wednesday morning, Lyon County would play again at 2 p.m. Thursday against either Swoyersville, Pa., Post 644 or Danville, Ill., Post 210.

If Lyon County drops its opener, the Aces would play again at 8:30 a.m. Thursday against either Swoyersville or Danville in an elimination contest.

Other teams in the field are Michigan champion Gladwin County Post 171, Indiana champ Terre Haute Post 346, Ohio champion Beverly/Lowell Post 389/750 and tournament host Charleston (Ill.) Post 93.

The Great Lakes Regional Tournament continues Friday and Saturday, with the championship set for Sunday.

The tourney will be played at Coaches Stadium at Monier Field on the campus of Eastern Illinois University.

The Great Lakes champion will advance to the 2019 American Legion World Series, which is set for Aug. 15-20 in Shelby, N.C.
