Heritage Christian Advances to KCAA Baseball Title Game

Trenton Hayes pitched a one-hitter to lead Heritage Christian Academy past Lakeside Christian Academy 14-0 and into the championship game of the KCAA State Baseball Tournament.

Hayes gave up a leadoff double in the first and then retired 13 of the next 15 batters he faced.  He struck out 12 batters and walked just four in shutting down the Lakeside Christian bats.

At the plate, the Warriors banged out 12 hits with seven of them extra-base hits.  Weston Powell and Carter Glover knocked RBI doubles as part of a three-run first inning.

Powell would later add a two-run triple in the third as the Warriors plated eight runs. Powell finished with three hits and three RBIs for HCA.

J.J. Thompson also contributed three hits and two runs knocked in, and Glover drove in three runs.

HCA advances to its second straight KCAA championship game.  The Warriors fell to Highlands Latin in the 2019 title game, and there was no season last year.

Heritage last won a KCAA baseball title in 2014 and a win this year would likely be the last state championship the Warriors will win in the KCAA.  HCA announced earlier this month they will be applying for membership to the KHSAA for the 2021-22 athletic season.

The KCAA championship game is scheduled for Thursday night in Shelbyville. HCA, the undefeated top seed in the tournament, will play No. 2 seed Assumption.
