The University Heights Academy Lady Blazers made their way to the 8th District championship game, and in turn the 2nd Region softball tournament, for the first time since 2017, as they rolled past the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers 12-2 in five innings in an 8th District semifinal Monday afternoon. The win also avenged a 17-1 loss to the Lady Tigers earlier in the season.

The Lady Blazers scored in four of their five at-bats, being fully efficient by scoring their 12 runs on only six hits. UHA was the recipient of nine walks and three hit batters by Lady Tigers pitching.

UHA scored three in the first, two in the third, two in the fourth, and then five runs in the top of the 5th inning to reach the 10-run mark.

Regan Pollard had a big day in the circle, giving up only two runs on four hits, striking out seven and walking only two. She got out of a couple of huge jams with minimal damage to help the momentum build in the favor of the Lady Blazers.

Krista Keller had a big day at the plate, going 3-3 and scoring three runs. Regan Pollard was 1-1 and had three RBIs and three runs scored.

Hopkinsville’s four hits were spread out between Kaitlyn Kaetzel, Jakayla Grubbs, Karli Herrera, and Hannah Thorson.

Hopkinsville sees their season come to an end with a record of 5-12.
