The relay team of DeDe Barbee, Alliyah Thomas, Iyanna Grubbs, and Fatu Crain reached the medal podium twice at the Class 2A State Meet Friday.

The Trigg County relay tandem of Iyanna Grubbs, Fatu Crain, Alliyah Thomas, and DeDe Barbee already had one medal around their necks from the 800-meter relay.  They had to wait it out and see if they would win a second medal.

Running in the second of three heats of the 1600-meter relay, strong starts put Trigg County in prime position.  They finished second in their heat in a time of 4:13.48 – seven seconds faster than their time at region and the fastest by a Trigg 4×400 team since 1983.

They then had to sweat out the final heat that featured Calloway County, the team that upset them at the region meet and knocked them out of the championship heat.  As the teams crossed the finish line, they watched until they saw that their time was good enough to medal.

In the 800-meter relay, Trigg ran a 1:50.05 to finish in sixth place. It was Trigg’s best time at the state meet since winning back-to-back titles in 2008-09.
