Landon Hunt made the cut at the KHSAA Boys’ State Golf Tournament and improved three shots over the second day to land inside the top 50 at his first state tournament appearance.

The Christian County eighth-grader finished at 15-over par for the two days and a tie for 47th place. His finish is the best for a Colonel golfer since John Buchanan tied for 35th place in 2017.

There were some anxious moments for Hunt, who began his day on the back nine at the Bowling Green Country Club Friday. He made the turn at six-over and birdied his 10th hole. That was part of a seven-hole stretch that saw him shoot one-under-par.

However, he shot three bogeys and a double-bogey over his final four holes to finish at nine-over for the round. He had to wait out the day to make sure he made the cut, which ended up being right at nine-over-par.

On Saturday, Hunt shot a 39 on each side of the course for a round that included three birdies and a score of 78. Hunt’s final total of 15-over was the best of any middle schooler in the tournament.

Matthew Troutman of the Christian Academy-Louisville won the tournament at five-under-par. He was the only golfer in the field to shoot in the red for the two-day event.
