Despite it being only their first season playing against KHSAA competition, the Heritage Christian Academy Warriors have sought to measure themselves against some tough teams, including Monday night’s visit from the 7-1 Beth Haven Bearcats.
With an 89-61 loss to the Bearcats, the Warriors are now 2-3 against KHSAA squads, with the teams they’ve fallen to combining for a 17-5 record.
Jordan Harris got Beth Haven off to a strong start with 10 1st-quarter points and the Bearcats led by eight after eight minutes. Carlos Robles scored eight of HCA’s first 14 points.
Despite five points for the Warriors’ Jason Leek, Beth Haven outscored HCA 16-13 to take a 37-27 advantage into the halftime break.
Weston Powell came out of the locker room hot for the Warriors, scoring 11 of his 14 points in the 3rd quarter. However, Luka Mateski posted 13 points and the Bearcats scored 28 to stretch the margin to 17.
It was all Beth Haven in the 4th, with Mateski adding nine more points to his game-high 33, and Harris scoring seven to finish with 25.
HCA will return to the court on January 4 when they welcome the Fort Campbell Falcons.
